SAN ANTONIO — Y-TIPA, a division of the Texas International Produce Association geared toward association members under the age of 35, held a reception April 17, here, at the 11th annual Viva Fresh Expo, drawing up-and-comers who will shape the direction of the Texas produce industry in the years to come. Attendees had an opportunity to network and participate in fun team-building activities in a lively atmosphere ahead of the opening reception that followed.

USDA restricts nine PACA violators
The U.S. Department of Agriculture imposed sanctions on nine produce businesses for failing to meet contractual obligations to the sellers of produce they purchased and failing to pay reparation awards issued under the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act. These sanctions include suspending the businesses’ PACA licenses and barring the principal operators from engaging in PACA-licensed business or other activities without USDA approval.The following businesses and individuals are currently restricted from operating in the produce industry:

The National Agri-Marketing Association presents the program each year to honor the best work in agricultural marketing communications, selected by a committee of peers. Entries compete regionally before advancing to nationals. Ten Acre received honors for 13 projects at the regional level this year.
Stemilt achieves net‑zero energy usage milestone
Stemilt achieved a major milestone in its sustainability journey: the company’s Stemilt Chinchiolo California (CSC) facility is on track to achieve net‑zero energy usage for its production warehouse through the completion of a two‑phase solar installation totaling 3,000 solar panels. The project positions Stemilt among a small number of packing and cold‑storage operations in California capable of fully offsetting their energy consumption through on‑site renewable generation.
Walmart set to remodel 650 stores
This year, Walmart is making a significant investment in stores across the United States to create jobs, help strengthen local economies, and make shopping faster and more convenient for our customers.In early 2024, the retailer committed to opening or converting more than 150 new locations while continuing to update the stores in its portfolio. This year the company's investment includes more than 650 scheduled remodels to Supercenters and Neighborhood Markets, and approximately 20 new store grand openings scheduled for 2026 and early 2027.
