Mrs. Green's Natural Market, a subsidiary of Natural Markets Food Group, announced large-scale expansion plans for 2014. The neighborhood store plans to open over 20 new locations this year across the Northeast and Midwest U.S. and the Canadian provinces of Ontario and Alberta.
Increasing national produce consumption theme of PBH annual meeting
SCOTTSDALE, AZ — The March 17-19 annual conference of the Produce for Better Health Foundation highlighted its wide reach to increase national consumption of fruits and vegetables.
Elizabeth Pivonka, president and chief executive officer of PBH, opened the March 18 program with a "State of the Foundation" presentation.
Good news was offered that between 2008 and 2011, childhood obesity dropped in 18 states.
Pivonka said PBH's role is to motivate people to eat more fruits and vegetables because it matters to their health.

Baloian Farms expands sales staff, grows Nogales location
Baloian Farms recently expanded its sales staff with the hiring of Marcel Corella to accommodate recent growth and expansion of the Nogales sales and procurement office.
Effective Dec. 16, Corella assumed the role of the newly created position of sales assistant. Corella’s primary responsibility will be to assist with the day-to-day activities within the sales department. His other key duties include managing packing materials for Mexico and assisting with quality assurance as needed.
Duarte encourages mango packaging consideration
RIO RICO, AZ — Cost cutting can be a key component in increasing mango consumption, observes Edgar Duarte, a partner in Higueral Produce, Inc., located here.
“The growers always want higher prices. And the consumer has to have a lower cost,” he noted. Leave it to the man in the middle to be creative in his thinking.
Packaging is part of the cost equation. Duarte suggests that some segments of the industry may want to reconsider mango packaging.
