Acreage for the program was rapidly expanded earlier this year due to high demand and interest, and harvesting is moving forward with continued fervor as the holiday season approaches.
PRO*ACT hires Russ Wingo, promotes Casey Jarrard
Monterey, CA-based PRO*ACT, a distributor of fresh produce, announced the promotion of Casey Jarrard and addition of Russ Wingo as vice presidents of client development, a new department for the national produce supply-chain management company.
Led by Jarrard and Wingo, the new department will work with key members of the senior management team, along with PRO*ACT’s national network of produce distributors, to drive sales via the creation and management of strategic client relationships, according to a company press release.

Dismissal denied in Listeria-related Primus suits
On Oct. 28, District Court Judge Charles M. Pratt denied two motions to dismiss filed by Primus Group Inc. The case involves multi-district litigation in Colorado stemming from cases pending against Primus relating to the distribution of tainted cantaloupe.
“These cases involve claims arising from the death and injury of numerous individuals resulting from their consumption of Listeria monocytogenes linked to cantaloupe produced by Jensen Farms in 2011,” the judge stated about the background of the case.

In 1970, Terry Baker planted a few acres of land he inherited near Norman Park, GA, with a little cabbage and some Southern vegetables. He worked the plot himself with a lone Massey-Ferguson tractor and harrow. The whole family pitched in to help where they could.
Erica Fasanelli now with West Coast Distributing
West Coast Distributing, headquartered in Boston, hired Erica Fasanelli as a sales assistant.
In her new role at West Coast, Fasanelli is responsible for assisting the sales team with orders. Prior to joining the company, she worked for a nursery and daycare center for two years. This is her first job within the produce industry.
Fasanelli currently resides in Malden, MA. Outside of work, she enjoys going to live shows and concerts, as well as watching movies.
