North Shore Greenhouses harvests its last European cucumbers
North Shore Greenhouses Inc., grower of North Shore Living Herbs and North Shore European Cucumbers, announced Nov. 11 that after 28 years in the cucumber business, it has harvested its last crop of European cucumbers.
The company said the decision to cease cucumber operations was based on the strong growth of its culinary herb line.
Florida orange crop estimate drops again
The U.S. Department of Agriculture lowered its estimate of the 2015-16 Florida orange crop by 7.5 percent, or 6 million boxes, to 74 million boxes. The final 2014-15 Florida orange crop tallied 96.7 million boxes.

Kroger and Roundy’s to merge in $800 million deal
Supermarket operator Kroger Co., based in Cincinnati, will purchase all outstanding shares of Milwaukee-based retailer Roundy’s in a merger deal valued at $800 million that was announced Nov. 11.
The $3.60 per share that Kroger will pay represents a 65 percent premium over the per-share price of Roundy’s stock at the close of trading Nov. 10.
