North Shore Greenhouses harvests its last European cucumbers
North Shore Greenhouses Inc., grower of North Shore Living Herbs and North Shore European Cucumbers, announced Nov. 11 that after 28 years in the cucumber business, it has harvested its last crop of European cucumbers.
The company said the decision to cease cucumber operations was based on the strong growth of its culinary herb line.
“Today was bittersweet,” Leo Overgaag, president and chief executive officer of Thermal, CA-based North Shore Greenhouses Inc., said in a press release. “My wife and I started our family farm growing European cucumbers knowing we wanted to provide a good life for our children and opportunities for families in our greater community. Today, our company continues to thrive to the point where we need the space to expand our herb line and continue to innovate in new ways. It’s really an exciting time for our company.”
North Shore currently grows over 20 varieties of culinary herbs, all living and all with their roots still intact. The company offers a full line of living clamshell and potted culinary herbs under the North Shore Living Herbs brand.
