Community-Suffolk says improvements at Boston Market Terminal a benefit to all
Many fresh produce terminal markets that were built decades ago have been making great strides at improvement, renovation and revitalization initiatives in recent years. One included is the Boston Market Terminal, which opened in April 1969. It is where Community-Suffolk Inc., a full line hardware vegetable house, is located.
Tommy Piazza, partner, corporate clerk and executive in charge of potatoes for the family owned and operated company, said the terminal recently installed all new lighting throughout the market.
Customized Brokers awaits Chilean cherries and blueberries
Customized Brokers, a Crowley company in Miami, is a licensed brokerage and Nelly Yunta is its vice president.
“We expect mainly cherries and blueberries from Chile this season,” said Yunta. “Cherries will arrive for about six months, or through March.”
Although the volumes that Customized Brokers is currently handling are what the company expected, Yunta noted that there were some issues with Argentinean blueberries this year due to insects found on shipments. This product had to be re-exported or destroyed.
New Jersey Agricultural Society names new trustees
The New Jersey Agricultural Society recently welcomed six new people to serve on its board of trustees. They are Marty Bullock of Bullock Farms, who also serves as president of New Jersey's State Board of Agriculture; Laura DePrado of Final Touch Plantscaping; Timothy Willmott of Burlington County Farmland Preservation; Joe Infante of Infante Farms; Erik Mollenhauer, retired, of Educational Information & Resource Center; and Myranda Bond, state treasurer with the New Jersey Future Farmers of America.
