Approaching its 59th apple harvest, Hudson River Fruit Distributors is optimistic about this year’s crop as well as a future that includes a larger role for women in the company.

Alisha Albinder Camac, vice president of sales and marketing, who is a fourth-generation member of the family-owned business, said this year’s crop is looking outstanding and shipments are expected to commence Aug. 20 from its headquarters in Milton, NY, in the state’s picturesque Hudson River Valley region.

Kim St George, a 25-year produce industry veteran, has joined Dole Fresh Vegetables as vice president of sales, west region. St George will focus on expanding the Dole value-added salad business while also working closely with Dole’s Fresh Pack team in farm fresh vegetables.

According to a recent consumer sentiment survey on inflation commissioned by NCSolutions, nearly half of Americans (45 percent) feel like they can't afford their previous lifestyle. An even greater 76 percent said their family has changed how they buy food with prices on the rise. Two-thirds (66 percent) are more mindful of how they are spending their money.

Dayka & Hackett, one of Frutura’s investments in the international fresh fruit business, has hired Stephen Fink as vice president of avocados. Fink, formerly vice president of North American sales for Mission Produce, will spearhead Dayka & Hackett’s introduction of avocados to the U.S. and global markets.

Eagle Eye Produce, a grower-shipper of fresh produce based in Idaho Falls, ID, started shipping new crop russet, red and yellow potatoes from its packing facilities in Idaho and Washington this week, as well as a new crop of yellow, red and white onions from its facilities in western Idaho and eastern Oregon.
