Lipman, one of North America’s larger field tomato growers, recently opened a 150,000-square-foot packing and repacking center in Dallas, consolidating the operation from three separate locations. Furthering Lipman’s commitment to geographic diversity, the facility will directly accommodate demand from customers in Texas, New Mexico, Louisiana, Oklahoma, Mississippi and Arkansas.

Del Monte Fresh subsidiary recognized by Guatemalan government
The Ministry of Labor & Social Security of Guatemala awarded the “Orden Laboral” to Bandegua, a Del Monte Fresh Produce subsidiary, in honor of its achievements in agricultural development.
The award, instituted in 2003, recognizes companies for their extraordinary contributions to research as well as labor rights and the development of labor relations and/or economic and social conditions of workers in Guatemala.
Bandegua was selected for the 2014 award in recognition for its established and growing role in the banana production and export business.

United Fresh chairman shares priorities for coming year

S.C. Fresh, based in Wenatchee, WA, added Jack Nebel to its team. In his new position as a fruit broker and sales representative, Nebel will be responsible for handling a full line of commodities for the company.
Prior to joining S.C. Fresh, Nebel worked for Uline Shipping Supplies in Auburn, WA, for four years. This is his first job in the produce industry.
American Orchid Society show draws 2,000 visitors to Minnesota venue
BLOOMINGTON, MN — The Orchid Society of Minnesota hosted the Spring 2014 American Orchid Society Members Meeting & Show April 30-May 4, here, in conjunction with meetings of the Mid-America Orchid Congress, the Slipper Orchid Alliance, International Phalaenopsis Alliance, Pleurothallid Alliance and the Angraecoid Alliance. The event moves around the country and the last time it was hosted here was 2005.
