South Carolina Department of Agriculture drives north for EPC meeting
The South Carolina Department of Agriculture and the Eastern Produce Council hosted a night at the driving range at TopGolf in Edison, NJ, on April 22. The event marked the 53rd year of the SCDA and EPC relationship. Prior to tee off, Michael Cranford of the SCDA, along with members of the South Carolina contingent, promoted the crops the state offers, which include peaches, watermelon and specialty crops.
Whole Foods expanding smaller-format banner
Whole Foods Market will open two new locations in New York City of its smaller format store concept, Whole Foods Market Daily Shop. The first location, a 10,000-square-foot store located in the East Village’s StuyTown development, will open May 14. The second location, an 8,500-square-foot store in Hell’s Kitchen, will open June 4.
Vick Family Farms expanding with sweet corn
Vick Family Farms has its seed beds in on approximately 9,000 acres of crops and now is working them daily just waiting for planting to begin in May.
“The weather is nice right now in North Carolina with much warmer days and some rainfall,” said Charlotte D. Vick, partner/sales and marketing manager for the Wilson, NC-based company.
In addition to sweet potatoes, the company is offering sweet corn again in 2025 and will be adding yellow corn to its offerings.
