Salmonella outbreak claims third life
Arizona's state and local health investigators have now identified 85 total cases of Salmonella Poona in the state, including 16 in Pima County, where one woman has died as a result of the infection. There have been two other deaths — one in California and one in Texas — connected to the outbreak.
Former peanut executive receives long prison term in Salmonella case
The former owner of Peanut Corp. of America was sentenced to 28 years in prison for his role in a 2008 Salmonella outbreak that claimed nine lives and sickened 714 across 46 states.
Stewart Parnell, 61, was convicted in 2014 on 72 counts of fraud, conspiracy and introducing adulterated food into interstate commerce. His sentencing on Sept. 21 represents the longest prison term ever levied upon an executive in a food poisoning case.
Sens. Stabenow, Perdue to address nutrition, immigration reform at United Fresh
Sens. Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) and David Perdue (R-GA) will address over 500 produce industry executives on Congress’s efforts tackling child nutrition reauthorization, implementing the 2014 farm bill and reforming immigration policies, during the general session breakfast on Wednesday, Sept. 30 at the United Fresh 2015 Washington Conference.

Generational know-how characterizes operations at Sun-Glo
The warehouse began to bustle on Aug. 18 for Sun-Glo of Idaho Inc., headquartered in Sugar City, ID. The company, initially established by five southeast Idaho potato growers in 1974, has been solely owned by the Crapo family since 1999. The family has produced quality Idaho potatoes for four generations.
