The warehouse began to bustle on Aug. 18 for Sun-Glo of Idaho Inc., headquartered in Sugar City, ID. The company, initially established by five southeast Idaho potato growers in 1974, has been solely owned by the Crapo family since 1999. The family has produced quality Idaho potatoes for four generations.
Bruce Crapo, an owner and chief financial officer, said Burbanks and Norkotahs are popular mainstays. “We also grow reds and golds for processing,” he stated. “We farm in the Upper Snake River Valley, more specifically from Egin Bench on the west to the Canyon Creek Area on the east.”

He provided some insights about the coming season. “The Norkotah crop looks really good. We expect the Russet Burbank crop to be good quality and size,” he stated. “Our season started out a little wet. But the crop looks good so far. We haven’t started the Russet Burbank harvest yet. That will begin for us about Oct. 1.”
Potatoes are marketed under the “Sun Supreme,” “Martha’s Garden” and “Side Delight” labels. No. 2 product is also sold under the “Ace” and “A Cut Above” labels. “Side Delight” and “A Cut Above” are the newest labels introduced in the last year.
A variety of clear and tinted poly bags, mesh bags, cartons and bins are available.
The company has received a “Superior” rating from AIB International for food safety. “In recent years, Sun-Glo has built a new packing facility with food safety, sustainability, traceability and increasing efficiencies in conserving our resources being the driving force of our expansion,” the company’s website states.
