Del Monte Fresh Produce announced the third-party certification of its pineapple farms and canning operations in Kenya as Sustainably Grown. This certification was issued by SCS Global Services in accordance with the producer and handler requirements of its internationally recognized Sustainably Grown Standard v 1.3. As a result, certified canned pineapples will soon be able to feature the Kingfisher eco-label.

Sal Vacca honored at retirement party
After working in the produce industry for several decades, Sal Vacca is retiring. The former owner of A.J. Trucco, located on Hunts Point Terminal Market in the Bronx, NY, helped to found the company in 1960. A retirement party was held in his honor Friday, Dec. 4 at the New York Botanical Gardens.
