Baldor Specialty Foods announces opening of new facility
Michael Muzyk, president of Baldor Specialty Foods in the Bronx, NY, told The Produce News that the company is officially announcing the opening of its new Washington, DC, location.
“It was an old building that had seen a couple of life phases,” explained Muzyk. “We gutted it and brought it up to our high standards, and we installed vertical docks, which is Baldor’s trademark facility signature.

Great start for Zespri's kiwifruit season
Zespri Kiwifruit, a global leader in kiwifruit marketing, announced the arrival of the first ships containing Zespri Kiwifruit. New Zealand had a great growing season, with hot weather and adequate rainfall moving into a cool fall, ideal for kiwifruit. The fruit landed on the West Coast of North America last week and is arriving this week on the East Coast.

Seven-year lease extension at Hunts Point seen as a potential itch by some
On Tuesday, Dec. 31, just prior to Bill De Blasio being sworn in as the new mayor of New York City, the New York City Economic Development Corp., then still under the leadership of Mayor Michael Bloomberg, announced that the city had renewed the Hunts Point Produce Market lease for an additional seven years.
Some feel that the extension is a short-term solution for a long-term problem, while others say that it’s at least a sign that the city government does want the terminal market to remain at Hunts Point.
