Splendid sees missed promotional opportunities for mangos on pricing
Larry Nienkerk, manager for Splendid Products in Burlingame, CA, has been around the block a few times and he knows how retail works with regard to markup. Still, he believes there are times when a promotional price will work in everyone’s favor, and ultimately can give the grower-shipper a break when supplies are plentiful.
As far as mangos are concerned, this summer is one of those times. “Basically we have had a bumper crop out of all districts in Mexico this year,” he said. “We could use some promotional help.”
Carefully timed organic growth continues at Anthony Vineyards
Rob Spinelli, salesman at Anthony Vineyards, said the company works to expand organic production to keep pace with burgeoning consumer demand.
“We are increasing to meet those demands,” he told The Produce News. “In the last two to three years, organic volume continues to grow. We must anticipate growth three to four years ahead to coincide with production cycles.”

Brett Dixon, company president, said the company owns everything — from the land to the cold storage and packing and sales.
“We directly control every part of the process,” said Dixon. “We have been in business for 10 years, and our products are all produced in California, primarily in the Bakersfield area. We like a hands-on approach where we have complete control of our products.”
Tudor: Rainier has longstanding commitment to organic production
The decision made by Rainier Fruit Co. more than a decade ago to become a leader in the production of organic fruit is validated by today’s marketplace dynamics.
“That commitment was made 12 years ago,” said Andy Tudor, director of business development. “We will continue to renew organic production on a yearly basis of about 10 percent of our production.”
Foxy BroccoLeaf to star in retail demonstrations this summer
With more than 100 retail demonstrations scheduled for this summer, The Nunes Co. has launched a major campaign to showcase its proprietary Foxy brand BroccoLeaf product throughout the United States.
Vice President of Marketing & Brand Management Matt Seeley said last summer’s successful “Rejuicenate” campaign, which taught consumers how to juice fresh vegetables without wasting product, is being duplicated in spades this summer. “We have more than 100 demos already on the books,” he said in May.
The campaign began in early May and will continue into the fall.
