C&S Wholesale Grocers to acquire SpartanNash
C&S Wholesale Grocers LLC and SpartanNash Co. have entered into a definitive merger agreement in which C&S will acquire SpartanNash for a purchase price of $26.90 per share of SpartanNash common stock in cash, representing total consideration of $1.77 billion, including assumed net debt. The transaction price represents a 52.5 percent premium over SpartanNash’s closing price on June 20, of $17.64, and a premium of 42 percent to its 30-day volume-weighted average stock price as of June 20.

Trendspotting: Monthly online grocery sales dip, but still up compared to last year
Online grocery sales in May 2025 finished at $8.7 billion, a 27 percent increase compared to last year with delivery driving nearly all the gains, according to the latest Brick Meets Click Grocery Shopper Survey, sponsored by Mercatus. While this marks the first month since August 2024 when total monthly sales have fallen below $9.5 billion, a larger month-over-month decline had been expected based on seasonal patterns seen across eGrocery.
