It’s been a banner year for Jim DiMenna and JemD International

Jim DiMenna, president of JemD International, a major distributor of greenhouse produce, and president of J-D Marketing, a partial owner of Jem-D International, is taking on even more responsibilities this year. Both JemD International and J-D Marketing are headquartered in Kingsville, ON.

Mr. DiMenna is gearing up to step into the role of chairman of the Canadian Produce Marketing Association for 2012 and 2013.

Mastronardi’s TOVs one of its strongest selling items in summer

Mastronardi Produce in Kingsville, ON, grows a full range of greenhouse products. Nancy Pickersgill, marketing coordinator for the company, said that what sets the company apart are its “Sunset” gourmet tomatoes, peppers and cucumbers. Mastronardi grows throughout Canada, the United States, Mexico and Central America.

“These growing areas give us the ability to produce greenhouse vegetables year round,” said Ms. Pickersgill. “Our home farms in Ontario start producing in March and run through November — possibly even into December this year.

Clifford Produce enjoying great success with ‘Fusion’ tomatoes

Anthony Totta, director of marketing for Clifford Produce in Leamington, ON, told The Produce News June 27 that the company continues to produce several varieties and types of high-quality greenhouse tomatoes, cucumbers, and peppers in its Ruthven, Leamington and Kingsville, ON, greenhouses.

Earlier cool conditions will not dampen California’s pear season

Although cool weather earlier in 2011 is expected to slightly delay the harvest of California pears, growers and marketers are expecting the season to progress in an orderly manner.

Westmoreland Sales in height of Ontario season with great quality

Ken Green, executive vice president of sales and marketing for Westmoreland Sales in Leamington, ON, told The Produce News that the company produces tomatoes on-the-vine, beefsteak tomatoes, English cucumbers, mini cucumbers, peppers and specialty tomatoes in its Ontario greenhouse facility.

“Cucumbers are produced year round in Ontario,” said Mr. Green. “All other items from Ontario run from every early spring through late fall.

“During Ontario’s off season, we work with our grower-partners in Mexico in order to offer year-round supplies of every item that we carry,” he added.

Lucca Freezer & Cold Storage expands to meet demand

The international fruit business along the Delaware River continues to grow, and Lucca Freezer & Cold Storage Inc. is expanding to meet demand.

“We are just finishing up another expansion. We added another 32,000 square feet,” owner Rusty Lucca told The Produce News July 14.
