With consumer demand for avocados at a very strong level during the summer months, the cultural crew for La Bonanza does all it can to create the perfect avocado for that time of year.

“It is not just where you plant the tree, but how you develop the perfect variety and pruning technique for this time of year,” said Gabriel Villasenor, owner of La Bonanza Avocados and La Bonanza Fresh. “The soil, the rocks, irrigation and location all play a role in growing the perfect summer fruit.”  

With the produce industry returning to a level of normalcy following more than two years of pandemic-caused challenges, GR Fresh is concentrating its effort on its core commodities and services.

The organic certification of fruits and vegetables grown in indoors has long been a festering issue in the organic sector and was the subject of a workshop session at the recent Organic Produce Summit, held in Monterey, CA, July 13-14.

With more than 1,700 registrants, a sold-out trade show featuring more than 150 exhibitors and a robust educational program, the 2022 Organic Produce Summit was an unmitigated success.

Walmart has informed some of its suppliers of a new fuel surcharge that will be levied on FOB purchases starting Aug. 1.

Walmart will begin charging a fee that amounts to 1.3 percent of the product invoice to suppliers that use Walmart to transport goods to the retailer’s warehouses and stores.

Lakeside Organic Gardens, which has been growing and shipping organic vegetables for more than 25 years, has added organic artichokes to its product mix.

“We are super happy to be growing artichokes in the Lakeside label along the Central California coast,” said Sales Manager Brian Peixoto. “Our volume and quality are fantastic as artichokes thrive in this California coastal climate.”
