Giumarra adds salesman for avocados, asparagus
The Giumarra Cos. announced that James Paul has joined the company and will handle avocado and asparagus sales.
Mr. Paul will work with Midwest and East Coast customers to implement programs designed to create incremental sales for asparagus and avocados. He will also be coordinating efforts with Giumarra's global supply to provide a seamless continuity of fresh Nature's Partner asparagus throughout the year.

Sierra Ag Transportation adds assets to mix
Because of demands from customers, Visalia, CA-based Sierra Agricultural Transportation, Inc., has added several company owned and operated trucks to its list of assets, and is currently in negotiations to add to that fleet.
Chad Lenaburg, who handles sales for destinations ranging from the Midwest to the East Coast said some of the firm’s larger customers want the transportation company that they are doing business with to have “skin in the game” so to speak.
Mann Packing to participate in Rock 'n Roll Marathon Series
Mann Packing is teaming up with the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series to feature its award-winning stringless sugar snap peas at two major race events this fall in Virginia Beach, VA, and San Antonio, TX.
The Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series is the world's largest running series, covering 24 major markets in North America and three international destinations, with more than 471,500 participants. In addition, the Rock 'n' Roll Marathon Series is a charity fundraising event that raised more than $256 million in 2011.
Issues are clear as FFVA prepares for annual convention
It is tempting to reference Charles Dickens’ “A Tale of Two Cities” to describe the produce industry in the Sunshine State as the Florida Fruit & Vegetable Association prepares for its 69th annual convention, set for Sept. 19-21 at the Naples Ritz-Carlton.

Bland Farms sees tight supplies, strong markets for Peruvian sweets
Delbert Bland, owner of Bland Farms LLC of Glennville, GA, and a year-round, worldwide onion producer, foresees tight supplies but excellent markets for this year’s Peruvian crop.
“In Peru this year our crop’s about 20 percent less because it’s been so warm,” Mr. Bland said. “It’s making a difference with the supply, too. Supplies are fairly tight down there.”
Craig Morris joins Homegrown Organic Farms
Porterville, CA-based Homegrown Organic Farms announced that CRAIG MORRIS joined the company Aug. 20 as citrus category manager.
Mr. Morris began his agriculture career by working on his family’s citrus ranches and raising livestock for 4-H and Future Farmers of America. He earned a bachelor’s degree in agriculture business from Fresno State University and previously worked for Gillespie Ag Services, The Kroger Co., LoBue Bros. Inc. and most recently as director of new business development at Pro Citrus Network.
