PMA donates salad bars to 27 schools
Thousands of students in 27 schools in four states will have more opportunities to eat fresh fruits and vegetables each day when they return to school this fall, where they will find brand new salad bars in their school cafeterias.
The salad bars are being donated by Produce Marketing Association as part of its support for First Lady Michelle Obama’s Let's Move! campaign and the Let’s Move Salad Bars to Schools initiative.
Publix and NFL's Jaguars enter five-year partnership
Publix Super Markets and the National Football League’s Jacksonville Jaguars announced a five-year partnership in which Publix becomes the “Official Supermarket of the Jaguars.”
To kick off the partnership, Jaguars and Publix executives made a joint announcement at EverBank Field prior to the team’s second day of training camp. Following the team’s practice, the first 750 fans in attendance received an invitation for a complimentary tailgate party hosted by Publix.
Interfresh opens sales office in Los Angeles
Interfresh Inc., a national supplier of fruits and vegetables based in Orange, CA, announced that it has opened a new sales office in Los Angeles that will be headed by Brian Campos and Yadira Gonzales.
In addition to running the new location, Campos and Gonzales will be responsible for expanding the company’s melon business.
Ready Pac honored with Walmart's Excellence in Sustainability Award

The California Table Grape Commission has “a very comprehensive campaign” to communicate to basically a global audience positive messages about California grapes, according to Kathleen Nave, president of the commission. “I think the overriding theme is that grapes from California are always the perfect choice,” either as a snack or to enhance a meal, she said.

Not surprisingly, kale and Brussels sprouts are gaining great favor from chefs, who are adding the items to their menus in large numbers. It is a bit more surprising that beets and pumpkins, as a squash item, have also seen a big jump in their menu appearances.

GLOUCESTER CITY, NJ — On June 16, the Nagato Reefer left the West Cape of South Africa laden with thousands of tons of Navel and Cara Cara oranges and clementines due for delivery at Holt Logistics’ Gloucester Marine Terminal.
At 8 a.m. July 3, a pilot boat left the dock in Philadelphia to meet the ship upriver and guide it into its berth.
