Village Farms Fresh recently partnered with the special home improvement series Military Makeover hosted by Montel Williams. The company is featured in episode two of season 36 that airs on Lifetime TV.  Decorated U.S. Army veteran Carlos Colón-Ruiz who resides in Arlington, TX, along with his family, receive an awesome complete home remodel during the series.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture is investing more than $52 million to improve dietary health and access to fresh fruits and vegetables for eligible families.

The funds support efforts across three National Institute of Food and Agriculture competitive grant programs that make up the Gus Schumacher Nutrition Incentive Program. The program is named in honor of the former USDA Under Secretary of Agriculture for Farm and Foreign Agricultural Services (1997 to 2001).

Sofia Produce LLC, doing business as Trufresh, expanded its recall to include additional order numbers of fresh cantaloupe because of possible health risks due to Salmonella.

The current recall is of all sizes of fresh cantaloupes packaged in cardboard containers labeled with the “Malichita” label distributed between Oct. 16 and Oct. 23 because they have the potential to be contaminated with Salmonella.

Chiquita announced its exclusive collaboration with Joester Loria Group, a leader in the licensing industry. JLG will serve as Chiquita's official licensing agency, working to expand the brand’s reach and create brand extension opportunities. The company said this collaboration signifies a significant step for Chiquita.

The Fresh Produce Association of the Americas held its annual membership meeting earlier this month at the Loews Ventana Canyon Resort to talk about FPAA activities for the year, to talk about upcoming efforts and to hear about the efforts of the board and staff.

The meeting was held just prior to the start of the SouthWest International Produce Expo and the 54th Annual Golf Tournament. As part of the annual meeting, FPAA members elected new directors to the board.
