Bland Farms recently celebrated its 75th anniversary with employees, their families and friends at the cabin where Raymond and Rubye Jean Bland — who established the company in 1948 —  once lived. Festive decorations and balloons adorned the tent, while bounce houses and games entertained partygoers for the Diamond Jubilee.

Kurt Zuhlke has seen a lot in his nearly 45 years in the produce business. He has been around long enough to see some trends, not always good ones, come back into vogue for various reasons that often deal with money.

His job as president and CEO of Kurt Zuhlke & Associates, a Bangor, Pa.-based company that produces 44 different packaging molds, is to give retailers the options they want and need to keep consumers coming back into their stores for their produce needs.

Over the years, Capro Inc. has earned a reputation for excellence as a tropical produce grower importer and distributor that focuses on specialty cooking bananas and different varieties of plantains.

The company has grown every year since its founding. According to Vladimir Verdecia, director of sales, and co-owner with Rodrigo Pastor and Yuri Prokhorov, of the Miami-based firm, that is a result of Capro’s commitment to quality.

Oceanside Pole will harvest its season’s first vine-ripened tomatoes at the end of June alongside exclusive marketer Oppy.

New Limeco imports a full line of tropical fruits and vegetables from South and Central America as well as the Caribbean and distribute them to retailers and wholesalers nationwide.
