Bolthouse Fresh Foods is solidifying its reputation for innovation by earning the prestigious Best Sustainable Packaging Award at the 2024 IFPA Global Produce & Floral Show. The compostable packaging will debut this month at Meijer with one- and two-pound Bolthouse Fresh baby carrots and broaden to organic products in 2025.

Bolthouse Fresh Foods’ compostable packaging is made from renewable canola and breaks down using standard home composting practices. It is also TUV Certified, signaling thorough safety, quality and sustainability testing.

During my recent Saturday morning coffee meet with a group of friends, a discussion about supermarkets and produce transpired. The dialogue covered fruit and vegetable quality, sale items and of course, pricing.

After they inundated me with several of their pet peeves, the conversation turned to organic produce and I was asked a number of questions: What exactly are organic fruits and vegetables? What’s so good about them? Why are the prices so much higher?

Kwik Lok Corp., headquartered in Yakima, WA, has announced plans to transition the CEO role. Don Carrell, who assumed leadership in February 2019 from his role as chief operating officer, will be leaving the company. Eric Hill of Graphic Packaging International will assume the position as of Nov. 25. 

The Chilean Fresh Fruit Association believes no other country in the Southern Hemisphere exports the range of summer fruits that are available from Chile. “Our counter-seasonal supply enables consumers to enjoy their favorite summer fruits in the winter,” said Karen Brux, managing director of the Chilean Fresh Fruit Association. “The first Chilean fruits coming into season are blueberries and cherries, followed by stone fruit (plums, nectarines peaches) and grapes.”
