However, “we are going to have a brand new deal starting this year with a group of growers in the Dominican Republic,” said Rick Burkett, sales director, in an interview with The Produce News Nov. 20.

The Second Annual Famous Idaho Potato Bowl game, of which the Idaho Potato Commission in Eagle, ID, is the title sponsor, is scheduled for Saturday, Dec. 15 on the famous blue turf of Boise State University’s Bronco Stadium in Boise.

Twenty-fifth-ranked Utah State University, which was defeated in the first Famous Idaho Potato Bowl face-off in the final seconds of last year’s game by Ohio State after having led the entire game, will be back determined to emerge victorious this year.

Faced with an announcement from the U.S. Department of Commerce that it would terminate a tomato anti-dumping duty suspension agreement that has been in place between Mexico and the United States since 1996, tomato growers in Mexico have asked the department to reconsider and renegotiate the agreement and have put forth proposals they believe should adequately address concerns of the department and of the Florida tomato industry.

Washington state's Commission on Hispanic Affairs recently honored Stemilt Growers with a Community Collaboration Award based on the company's strong investment and involvement in the Hispanic community.

Stemilt president West Mathison and his wife, Courtney, who also chairs the company's Corporate Social Responsibility Committee, accepted the award during CHA's 40th Anniversary Gala Nov. 9 in Seattle.
