For more than two decades, Shuman Farms has been a pioneer of cause marketing initiatives within the fresh produce industry. Shuman Farms’ Healthy Family Project, founded in 2002 by President and CEO John Shuman, has donated more than 18 million meals to Feeding America and raised more than $7.5 million for charities that support children and families. The grower has also donated meals and raised awareness of food insecurity in the United States.

For the second time LG Herndon Jr. Farms has partnered with the Gary Sinise Foundation for Vidalia onion season. This partnership will have two cycles during the 2023 Vidalia onion season where onions will be shipped with special co-branded packaging that highlights the work of the foundation, the Memorial Day Promotion and the July Fourth Promotion.

G&R Farms, a third-generation Vidalia onion grower in southeast Georgia, partnered with the American Cornhole Organization. The promotion includes the Acing Summer Flavors cookbook and will culminate in an online showcase of athlete profiles at ACO’s Go the Distance Festival being held at the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, IA, in August.  

The Texas International Produce Association is busy promoting Texas 1015 Sweet Onions thanks to a USDA-AMS Specialty Crop Block Grant administered by the Texas Department of Agriculture. The grant will fund another record-breaking marketing program this spring focusing on increasing brand awareness and sales of the TX1015 Sweet Onion, aimed at both retailers and consumers.

G&R Farms debuted a redesign packaging in coordination with the start of the 2023 Vidalia onion season. The move aim to highlight the premium essence of the Vidalia onions and support retailers with increased sales.

A virtual tour of a Texas 1015 onion field in the Rio Grande Valley, featuring grower Wayne Reavis of Reavis Farms reporting live from the ground via video, was one of the highlight events at the Viva Fresh Expo in Dallas, March 30-April 1.

Dante Galeazzi, president and CEO of the Texas International Produce Association, moderated the session as he led Reavis through a series of topics designed to give the buyer community a firsthand look at an onion operation in Rio Grande City, even though they sat comfortably 500 miles north in the Gaylord Texas Resort in Dallas.
