Monterey Mushrooms presented 94 children of its employees with $254,678 in scholarship awards for the 2021-22 academic year.

Celebrating its 50th year in business, Monterey Mushrooms is taking the company's purpose, “Enhancing People’s Lives” to new levels. The scholarship program is one example. For the past 30 years, dependent children of full-time employees have been eligible to apply for a scholarship up to $3,000 and for up to four years. 

Phillips Mushroom Farms is the largest grower of specialty mushrooms in what is considered the Mushroom Capital of the World. The Phillips family started growing mushrooms in Kennett Square in 1927, on the same property now utilized to ship fresh mushrooms from coast-to-coast. 

Basciani Foods has had a challenging 2021. This includes the pandemic, trucking, port and labor issues, yet the longtime mushroom company prospers on.

“We’re going to survive,” said Michael Basciani, Sr., chief operations officer for the Avondale, PA-based company. “We’ve been through some pretty heavy stuff in the past and know how to survive. I’ve been doing this since I was 10 and I’ll be 60 in October, so I’ve been playing this game of thrones for 50 years.”

Kennett Square, PA is known as the Mushroom Capital of the World, and Phillips Mushroom Farms has done its part to ensure the city maintains that moniker.

Mother Earth Organic Mushrooms’ rich history dates back to 1921 when Arthur P. Yeatman built his first two mushroom houses for his dairy farm. Today, the family-owned company has 53 growing houses in Pennsylvania, and its century of experience has proven invaluable during this very busy and very challenging year.
