This year's Super Bowl drove record avocado retail sales
The 2025 Super Bowl delivered another strong performance for Hass avocados, as consumers across the U.S. stocked up in preparation for the year’s most anticipated football event. According to the Hass Avocado Board’s Avocado Holiday Retail Recap, 64.9 million units of Hass avocados were sold during the big game week, generating $74.4 million in retail sales — a 25 percent increase in dollar sales and a 3.8 percent increase in units compared to 2024.
These figures represent the highest Super Bowl week unit and dollar sales performance in the past four years. Combined, the Q1 2025 holiday weeks spanning the Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day generated sales of 167 million units and $199 million in retail sales.
Key highlights from this year’s Super Bowl performance include:
- The national average selling price for avocados reached $1.15 per unit.
- Seven out of eight U.S. regions posted year-over-year volume growth.
- Small avocados (4046) experienced a 4 percentage point increase in promoted volume share, with promotional activity contributing a 57 percent lift in volume during the week.
- Large avocados (4225) delivered the strongest promotional results, including a 135 percent volume lift in California.
The Hass Avocado Board's latest Holiday Retail Recap shows that Super Bowl, Valentine’s Day and St. Patrick’s Day collectively drove 167 million units and $199 million in retail sales. Both small and large avocados contributed to growth, with promotional activity and regional momentum helping boost category performance.
“The big game continues to generate strong results for the category,” said Alejandro Gavito, senior business insights and data services manager at the Hass Avocado Board. “Retailers who leveraged promotions and strategic pricing saw meaningful lifts in performance.”
