A breakthrough in floriculture, Ketchup and Fries by TomTato is a hand-grafted plant that produces both sweet tomatoes and delicious potatoes. According to a company news release, this product from Britain has made its way to the North American market through SuperNaturals Grafted Vegetables, the founders of the “Mighty ‘Mato” grafted tomato brand.
Above the ground, gardeners can harvest over 500 super sweet cherry tomatoes for snacking, salads and even ketchup. Below the ground, the yield is up to 4.5 pounds of white potatoes for baking, mashing and of course, fries.
This natural, non-GMO/GEO process takes these two common plants and grafts them together They are perfect for gifting during top floriculture spring holidays like Mother’s Day and Father’s Day. Retailers could cross-market Ketchup and Fries plants with garden gear like gloves and hand trowels, or pair them with tasty recipes and spices.
Ketchup and Fries should be planted in a full-sun garden location or large container (15-gallon-plus). Bury the graft up to the second set of tomato leaves from base to give tomato stability and potatoes depth. Stake plants to help plant stay upright. Feed plants with a 15-10-30 fertilizer. Harvest tomatoes throughout the summer and early fall, then cut the tomato plant at the base and remove. Let the potatoes season for two weeks in the ground and then harvest potatoes.
