Wal-Mart's Pam Kohn named senior VP of perishables
Wal-Mart executive Pam Kohn has succeeded Bruce Peterson as senior vice president of perishables of the nation's largest chain.
A spokesperson for Wal-Mart confirmed the appointment but said that Ms. Kohn was not available for comment and that no further information was available at this time. Ms. Kohn had been senior vice president of Wal-Mart's Southeast division and leader of the chain's Neighborhood Markets.
In an e-mail to The Produce News, Wal-Mart Vice President of Produce Ron McCormick wrote, "We in produce and floral were excited to hear Pam Kohn would be taking over responsibility for fresh foods. She had deep food experience before coming to Wal-Mart."
He added that she was leading the way at Wal-Mart for those in supply chain management before being promoted into the store operations division. He said she was also valuable in helping develop the Neighborhood Market.
"With this wealth of food experience inside and outside the company, Pam will hit the road running," he added in the e-mail. "Her fresh experience with our stores in the Southeast should give us guidance in making our produce and floral departments even better places to shop."
Ms. Kohn was a senior vice president for Stop & Shop Supermarket Cos. in Boston before joining Wal-Mart in 2002 to focus on improving the operation's supply chain. She also has had senior executive experience with the Food Lion chain in North Carolina.
