They look perfect on the shelf, glossy, plump and vibrant. But in just a few days, most cherries are destined for the trash, their stems brown, and their skins wrinkled. 

A strong stretch of heat is pushing through California this week, and growers are feeling the pressure. From Salinas to Oxnard and the Central Valley, inland temperatures are climbing past 100°F, with some parts of the Central Valley reaching up to 112°F. Harvest crews have adjusted by starting earlier, but field conditions remain tough across nearly every commodity.

The International Fresh Produce Association announced the slate of new officers and directors for the 2026 IFPA board of directors. These volunteer leaders will be confirmed by a ballot shared with membership and begin its board service at the 2025 Global Fresh Produce & Floral Show, Oct. 16-18, in Anaheim, CA.  

The New England Produce Council hosted its annual Produce, Floral & Food Service Expo on Aug. 18-19, at Encore Boston Harbor in Everett, MA. The event brought together produce, floral and food service professionals for two days. Attendees explored a trade show floor showcasing the latest products while engaging in discussions on industry trends shaping the future of fresh.
