Tiptoe through the tulips and embrace spring holidays
f you’re not one of the lucky ones who gets to go on a long cruise after all of your hard work at Valentine’s Day, and you’re seeing the oncoming freight train that is six spring holidays in eight weeks, hopefully you won’t follow the words of advice from radio humorist Garrison Keillor, “Sometimes you just have to look reality in the face and deny it.”
Instead, we’re here to help you embrace the challenge and find inspiration in this edition’s articles on Easter and Passover merchandising ideas; how flowers can increase productivity for Administrative Professionals Week; garden center tips for a profitable spring season; along with a plethora of information about our featured flower, the ever-popular springtime (or year-round) tulip. Hopefully, you will find yourself enlightened and motivated to integrate more of these versatile blossoms into your floral centers and generate additional sales.
We also provide a preliminary report on Valentine’s Day business results; share a couple of stories about companies giving back to their communities; Kasey Cronquist explains the Certified American Grown program; and we preview some upcoming expos, conferences and shows. While preparing this month’s edition, it really struck me how immense and diverse the floral industry is, and all the sectors and topics we continue to address.
Well, in honor of St. Patrick’s Day this month, I’ll leave you with an old Irish blessing shared with me by my predecessor John Niblock: “May those who love us, love us; and for those who don’t love us, may God turn their hearts; and if He doesn’t turn their hearts, may He turn their ankles, so we will know them by their limping.” Here’s hoping you don’t see too many people limping.
See you next month.
