Taylor Fresh Foods buys major stake in Pacific Pre-Cut Produce
Salinas, CA-based Taylor Fresh Foods Inc., the corporate parent of Taylor Farms, has acquired a majority interest in Tracy, CA-based Pacific Pre-Cut Produce. The acquisition gives Taylor a seamless national retail deli production and distribution network.
Pacific Pre-Cut Produce's retail deli items include a variety of fresh-cut vegetables, such as green leaf lettuce, sliced onions and tomatoes, fresh green salad kits and front-case deli salads.
Steffanie Smith, president of Pacific Pre-Cut Produce, said that her company has been in retail deli for nearly a decade and has seen continued growth in the category. The companys "grab-and-go" salad-in-a-kit format is its most popular item, she said.
Ms. Smith said that Taylor Fresh offers value is in its ability to widely distribute products through its regional production facilities. Taylor Fresh Foods-Taylor Farms has built a network of nine salad plants, including facilities in California, Colorado, Maryland, Texas, Florida and Tennessee, and two international locations that produce fresh-cut salads, fruit and vegetables. The facilities service its customers needs in the foodservice and retail markets.
We can take the program weve begun and grow in other regions, Ms. Smith said. Our region was west of the Rockies.
Among Taylor Freshs production facilities that will help expand Pacific Pre-Cuts reach are locations in Smyrna, TN, Forrest Park, GA, Annapolis Junction, MD, Orlando, FL, and Dallas.
Ms. Smith said that she sees opportunities and synergies for Pacific Pre-Cut with the deal. Theres no crossover in customers.
Taylor Fresh has co-packed Pacific Pre-Cut items for about a year, and those items have been distributed throughout Taylors entire distribution channel. Pacific Pre-Cut offers both conventional and organic fresh-cut fruits and vegetables in a wide variety of sizes, counts, blends and packaging.
The move to acquire Pacific Pre-Cut Produce caps five years of rapid internal growth for Taylor Fresh with its major foodservice customers.
Pacific has quietly grown with key retail customer partners to become the leading salad and fresh-cut fruit and vegetable provider to supermarket delis in the western United States, said Bruce Taylor, chairman and CEO of Taylor Fresh Foods. The combined companies give Taylor Farms an integrated national deli program. In addition, we believe Taylor Farms foodservice customers will benefit from many of Pacifics innovative products.
Pacific Pre-Cut Produce operates two production facilities comprising 150,000 square feet and employs over 400 people in Tracy, CA.
Pacifics rapid growth required that we find a strategic partner that could help us reach our goals, Ms. Smith said. Our team has created a niche for itself, and we see a tremendous opportunity by being part of a larger national supplier.
At Pacific, business will continue as usual as the company remains focused on meeting growing demand, Ms. Smith said. The same management team will continue to lead Pacific and help integrate the Taylor Farms supermarket deli program around the country.
