To set itself up as a leading supplier of Mexico-grown avocados to the United States and handle its increasing supplies, La Bonanza Avocados, which is headquartered in Urupan, Michoacan, has expanded its fleet of trucks delivering avocados to the United States.

“Efficiency is important to delivering product to the border,” said Gabriel Villasenor, owner of the company. “We have recently added two additional semi-tractor trailers and three bobtails to our growing fleet.”

Grupo Los Cerritos, which was founded in 2001, is dedicated to the production of berries and avocados. The company was started in Michoacan, but the group expanded production into the state of Jalisco with avocado groves.

With Jalisco now approved for shipments of avocados into the United States from certified groves and packinghouses, Grupo Los Cerritos (GLC) is well positioned for continued growth.

As Del Rey Avocado Co. President Patrick Lucy surveyed the avocado landscape in early August, the company was sourcing product from five distinct regions. But soon that will dwindle down to just two regions —  both in Mexico.

Agrokasa, Peru’s second largest grower/shipper/exporters of avocados, has completed a three year water project that turned sand dunes into productive crop land and is providing irrigation water for the Ica, Peru region.

The company recently released a video that outlined the project and its benefits for the region. This initiative was launched in 2019 after the company won the bid to turn wastewater from the city of Ica into water suitable for irrigation.

By early-August, Peru had shipped nearly 200 million pounds of avocados to the U.S. market with the expectation that it would ship another 100 million pounds during the final two months of its season, smashing its previous record by nearly 50 percent.

After months and months of stratospheric FOB pricing on avocados, big volumes were available in the U.S. market in July leading to much lower prices with promotional opportunities expected to stretch far into the future.
