SunFed progresses in roll-out
RIO RICO, AZ — When a produce distributor has a broad product line that undergoes a total rebranding campaign involving many growers and packinghouses, the results can only evolve over time.
SunFed Produce, LLC, based here, announced such an effort in October at the PMA Fresh Summit in Anaheim.
On a Feb. 3 check-in with Brett Burdsal, who is the director of marketing for SunFed, he indicated that new three-count pepper bags are “shipping now to selected markets.” The three count peppers are either “stoplight” or “rainbow” mixes.
A new label for SunFed’s two-pound “press-to-seal” Persian cucumber bag “is close to release” as is a three-count long English cucumber bag. This bag comes in six label colors to allow retailers to have a bright look — “like Skittles” candy — within the English cuke retail display.
Burdsal was preparing to exhibit these and other SunFed products at the Southeast Produce Council and CPMA conventions, as well as the Viva Fresh show in Austin, TX. SunFed is a Viva Fresh sponsor.
In other news, Burdsal said SunFed is conducting breeding trials in Mexico for new melon varieties. “The emphasis is on flavor” in the field trials, he said. “We are pushing our seed business partner to have the best flavor out there.”
