Sundia sweetens its lineup
Having become one of the larger watermelon growers and one of the faster- growing produce brands in its first year of operation, San Francisco-based Sundia Corp. has set its sights on several new offerings, including mangos, onions and tomatoes.
Dan Hoskins, the chief operating officer of Sundia, said that it unveiled the branding program last year "in response to its current grower base, some of whom import and grow mangos, onions and tomatoes in the off-watermelon season and wanted to put the 'Sundia' sticker on these products because it helps them sell the products at store level."
Mr. Hoskins noted that although the nationwide program "is very small at the moment, we are looking to expand upon it. We are out there asking other growers, even non-watermelon growers, to put the 'Sundia' sticker on their products. Be it honeydew or tomatoes, we are out there asking if they want to participate in the Sundia program."
In addition, Mr. Hoskins said that Sundia's new cut-fruit line, which will be marketed under the "True Fruit" label, is "coming along well and product will be ready to ship by the first of March. We have had some calls from retailers who have been very receptive."
