Sun Belle unveils colorful new logo and packaging
Sun Belle Inc. unveiled its colorful new logo and packaging at the Produce Marketing Association annual convention held recently in San Diego. New packaging on display included completely new labels and boxes for the company's berry line of raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and red currants, as well as new PLU and UPC stickers for its greenhouse-grown peppers and tomatoes.
"Sun Belle is a brand that is trusted by consumers for top quality and freshness," Sun Belle Inc.'s president and founder, Janice Honigberg, said in a statement. "Our new berry packaging lets the consumer immediately see that these are Sun Belle berries while providing a colorful connection with the fruit inside. We feel that our new labels will draw consumers' attention to the display and help increase berry sales."
The new berry packaging includes new labels for half-pint (5.6 ounce) raspberries, blackberries, blueberries and red currants; 4.4-ounce blueberries, club pack blueberries, blackberries, raspberries and red currants; and 125-gram clamshells of all berries for Europe and Asia. The labels feature the bright new "Sun Belle" logo on a berry color-coordinated ribbon. The label's clean lines have been designed specifically to call attention to the fruit inside while alerting customers to the "Sun Belle" brand, the company noted.
All berry boxes have also been completely redesigned to feature the bright logo and to highlight the fruit inside. High-graphic display boxes for club packs are intended to further increase shoppers' attraction to -- and purchase of -- the berries on display.
Sun Belle berries got their start in 2002 when Ms. Honigberg of Sun Belle Inc., a shipper and distributor of imported produce since 1986, joined forces with Julio Giddings, the pioneering berry grower and agronomist in South America and Mexico. With its mission to grow and deliver premium-quality product, the company has become one of the top shippers of berries from Mexico, Chile and Argentina to supermarkets in North American and European markets during the past four years.
"We enjoyed huge growth in our berry programs in 2005-06, and are looking forward to an equally strong 2006-07," Ms. Honigberg said. Sun Belle said it has led the explosive growth of Tupi variety blackberries from Mexico, and is investing in raspberry and blueberry production in Mexico to complement production from Chile and Argentina. Ms. Honigberg noted that no matter the origin, all fruit packed under the "Sun Belle" label is premium, consistent and of the highest quality.
"Our operations are fully integrated with in-house nurseries, agronomists and plant geneticists working to improve plant varieties and stock, drip irrigation and world-class packing and employee facilities," said Ms. Honigberg. Sun Belle farms are GAP-certified and inspected by third-party laboratories, including Primus Labs and Davis Fresh Technologies. "We are committed to food safety and best practices from grower to customer," she said. "We leave nothing to chance and are completely hands-on in our efforts."
Ms. Honigberg said that farms have been carefully located and planned to ensure long uninterrupted growing seasons and production of the finest fruit. "There was a time when winter berry production was sporadic and targeted mainly to the holiday seasons. Sun Belle blackberries are now in full production for eight months from Mexico, from October through May, while our South American blueberries start before North American blueberries finish in the early fall and then overlap with Florida's spring production," Ms. Honigberg said. "Today one can enjoy blackberries, blueberries and raspberries virtually all year."
With distribution centers in Miami, Washington, DC, Chicago and Oxnard, CA, Sun Belle Inc. handles worldwide marketing, sales and distribution of Sun Belle berries. "We are committed to timely arrivals of berries in quantities and packaging ordered by customers," she said.
Sun Belle has zero tolerance for berries that do not meet or exceed customer expectations," Ms. Honigberg said, adding that this is one of the reasons the four-year-old venture has seen rapid acceptance and success.
