Strube headed in right direction
Strube headed in right direction
CHICAGO — In June 2013, Strube Celery & Vegetable Co. turned over its management to the new Strube generation. Two years later, Robert (Rob) Strube III, the firm’s new president, said the family business is going well: “Everyone is still adjusting. We know we are heading in the right direction. We have been focused on working ‘in’ the business, but now trying to work more ‘on’ the business and the strategic direction we want to take.”
Strube has a couple of new salesmen: Breck Grigas, who is expanding it into tropical, and Tony Battista, who joins T.J. Fleming in selling vegetables and an expanded Mexican line. Strube said the company added lines, “and business is up due to the new product lines and customers that they have brought in.”
Strube is adding to its truck fleet to make more deliveries. Strube’s brother-in-law, Jason Trott, heads up the transportation division. Strube noted that a truck fleet can attract new business, “as we can service our customers in a better manner.” The transportation side is “easier if you can control your own product.”
He noted, “We had a slow start to 2015. March was a little better and we are looking forward to growth as the year progresses. In January and February the weather was a problem.”
