SPC sponsors children's healthcare event
ATLANTA — It was a beautiful day Saturday morning, Nov. 2, at the Children's Healthcare of Atlanta's Strong Legs Run at Turner Field, here. The Southeast Produce Council was a Silver Sponsor of the Strong Legs Run supporting Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and Strong 4 Life.
"We're so grateful for the Southeast Produce Council's commitment to Children's Healthcare of Atlanta and our fight against childhood obesity," Lucy Klausner, senior development director at Children's Healthcare of Atlanta, said in a Nov. 4 press release. "The council's presence at the Strong Legs run was a strong witness for the families about the importance of filling half our plates with fruits and vegetables. We're trying to show our community that eating healthy can be fun -- and the Southeast Produce Council helps us prove that."

Thanks to more than a dozen SPC volunteers and SPC product donors, the council put together a beautiful SPC and Strong 4 Life farmstand showcasing what the council is all about.
"The SPC is all about giving back to our local communities, and the CHofA is one organization that we strongly support in the metro Atlanta community," SPC President Andrew Scott said in the release. "We look forward to a long and healthy partnership with CHoA and Strong4Life."
There were more than 3,500 participants, sampling fresh apples, bananas, grape tomatoes, Florida citrus and more. Special thanks to SPC members that donated fresh produce for the event: DNE World Fruit Sales, Fresh Del Monte Produce Inc., Oneonta Starr Ranch Growers, Flavor-Pic Tomato Co. Inc. and L.G. Herndon Jr. Farms Inc..
In addition to the great exposure SPC received at the event, coverage went viral, as the council posted pictures throughout the morning on Twitter and Facebook. On Twitter, the council reached more than 80,000 people through #StrongLegsRun and picked up several new SPC followers.
Encouraging people to exercise and eat more fruits and vegetable is an easy message everyone can get behind. As Kevin Dunleavy, the council's marketing and membership chairman put it in the release, "It feels good doing something good."
