Second expo a success for Newell
Second expo a success for Newell
W. Newell & Co., part of the Supervalu group, held its second annual expo July 24-25 in Indianapolis. In attendance were nearly 450 of the firm's customers.
The two-day event featured Harold Lloyd as the keynote speaker. His topic was "Merchandising magic and putting that 'Super back in your market," as well as his seven research revelations, or as he calls them, pearls.
There were also several workshops available to attendees, including Field to Fork with Blair Richardson from the PPN Association of California; Focus on Fresh Trends presented by Christine Walsh, who is the director of Supervalu University; Growing Through Variety with Jennifer Oskins; Fresh-cut Flower Trends with Paula Pineda; and Ultimate Flower Experience by Steve Daum.
Attendees had an opportunity to mingle during a social hour before dinner. They were also treated to music and dancing provided by The Blooze Brothers, along with a casino night.
The expo floor had vendors that provided information on new items that will be available in the coming months, along with the current products that W. Newell & Co. already provides. The retailers were able to sample some of these new products, see the new packaging and discuss optimal display ideas.
On day two, guest speaker Bryan Silbermann, president of the Produce Marketing Association, delivered The State of the Industry. Mr. Silbermann also discussed how food safety is a collective responsibility, and noted consumers will care about how much we know when they know how much we care.
