Radiant Orchid named color of the year
The Pantone Color of the Year for 2014 is Radiant Orchid, which represents emerging global trends in design. Color is critical in creating, merchandising and selling consumer products because it influences human thought processes, emotions and physical reactions.
Pantone, a wholly owned subsidiary of X-Rite Inc., has been recognized as an authority on color by designers, manufacturers, retailers and consumers since 1963.
According to Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute, the color Radiant Orchid denotes creativity and is the color of innovation and encourages people to be more creative and inventive.
Color gets the attention of buyers in the marketplace with an inherent meaning that they may not even be overtly aware of. It can be an effective tool to use when planning floral and plant merchandising in the supermarket floral center.
Use of Radiant Orchid hues in displays and signage will speak to buyers at a subconscious level, attracting their attention. Filling displays with flowers and plants that match or complement Radiant Orchid will also give the impression that the floral department is cutting edge and on trend.
Cindy Sulzman, assistant vice president for Hy-Vee Floral Operations, told The Produce News, “Customers will be seeing this year’s Pantone Color of the Year, Radiant Orchid, in catalogs, magazines and on Pinterest. I know as we near prom and wedding season, customers will want this color incorporated into corsages, boutonnieres, bridal bouquets and centerpieces. Showing ribbon, vases, flowers and other containers in this beautiful color now is a must,” she added. “It not only tells customers that we are in step with the latest styles and trends, it also lets them know that we are the place to shop for all their floral needs.”
