Produce directors work on ad programs two to three weeks in advance so get ready for the start of some great summer fruit within that time frame.

The early fruit is usually limited and priced higher, but supplies will steadily increase rapidly soon afterward. Being first on ad promotion will send a message to shoppers that your produce departments are readily stocked with new fresh summer fruit.

Having a bit more patience with produce from Florida should pay off nicely, according to officials at R.C. Hatton Farms. In fact, what started out as a relatively light season probably due to some rainy and cold weather in the state over the winter months, could turn into a very strong one come late April and May and the industry should be prepared.
