The Opening Reception of the New York Produce Show & Conference set the stage for an exciting week of networking, education and industry collaboration. Held at the Sheraton New York Times Square, the event welcomed produce industry leaders, buyers, and suppliers to a sophisticated evening of connection and conversation. The reception offered a chance to meet key players from across the supply chain in a relaxed yet professional atmosphere.

Last month the North Carolina Sweetpotato Commission hosted its #SweetHarvestTour2024 where both domestic and international creators, trade media and journalists learned all about how sweetpotatoes are grown, packed and shipped. The goal was to educate partners on the farm-to-table process and highlight how this superfood is available year-round.

The Peruvian Asparagus Importers Association forecasts ample asparagus supply for the holiday period and finishing out the season strong.

“Our importers are expecting the remainder of our season to be steady into January 2025,” said Priscilla Lleras, executive director of PAIA.

The U.S. Department of Agriculture has imposed sanctions on five produce businesses for failing to meet contractual obligations to the sellers of produce they purchased and failing to pay reparation awards issued under the Perishable Agricultural Commodities Act. These sanctions include suspending the businesses’ PACA licenses and barring the principal operators of the businesses from engaging in PACA-licensed business or other activities without approval from USDA.

The Kroger-Albertsons merger, first announced back in October of 2022, has been blocked by U.S. District Judge Adrienne Nelson. In addition to the U.S. Federal Trade Commission, eight states have challenged the $24.6 billion merger since it was first announced.
