The Produce News announces personnel changes
ORADELL, NJ -- John Groh has been promoted to publisher of The Produce News, based here, effective July 10.
Mr. Groh, who has served as the newspaper's editor and associate publisher for the past six years, will be in charge of all aspects of the day-to-day operation of The Produce News. He will retain some of his editorial responsibilities, and his new title is editor and publisher.
Mr. Groh succeeds Jack Bricker, publisher of The Produce News since 1985. Mr. Bricker will continue as president of The Produce News Inc., the corporation which owns The Produce News. He will work full time for The Produce News Inc. on new business projects but will no longer be involved in the daily operation of the newspaper.
Gordon M. Hochberg, vice president of The Produce News Inc., will continue to handle special projects in the editorial, advertising and electronic publishing aspects of the company.
Kevin Hoppe has been named national sales manager of The Produce News and will be in charge of the newspaper's advertising sales staff.
Located in Winchester, CA, Mr. Hoppe has been the newspaper's Western sales manager since 2003. Prior to his association with The Produce News, Mr. Hoppe was an advertising director at Supermarket News. He has a long affiliation with the produce industry, having had previous associations with Buyproduce.com and The Packer. Mr. Hoppe graduated from the University of Kansas, where he majored in journalism.
Mr. Groh joined The Produce News in 1995 as assistant editor. He was named managing editor in 1997 and was promoted to editor and associate publisher in 2000.
He is a graduate of the University of San Diego in San Diego, CA, where he earned a bachelor of arts degree in English. Prior to joining The Produce News, he worked for a New Jersey-based newspaper as a sports editor and beat writer covering the New York Giants of the National Football League, and as a writer and editor for the A.M. Best Co., a leading insurance-industry publisher based in Oldwick, NJ.
