Dayka & Hackett LLC, a Reedley, CA-based grower and distributor of table grapes, collaborated with Disney On Ice and Jewel-Osco stores in Chicago to run a successful promotion that encouraged kids to eat more grapes.

Mann Packing is expanding its sales staff in Canada with the addition of Ben Alviano, who joins the company as a national account manager, a Jan. 5 press release stated.

Mr. Alviano brings to Mann a rich sales and marketing background that includes time spent at the Pepsi Bottling Group, Proctor & Gamble and Magna International.

The Southeast Produce Council will honor Reggie Griffin with its 2012 Lifetime Achievement Award this March at its annual conference in Florida.

The council will present the award Saturday morning, March 3, during the keynote brunch, part of the annual SPC Retail and Foodservice Conference & Expo, set for March 1-3 in Tampa, FL.

An arctic blast that originated in Siberia, Russia, and blasted the northern United States with a blanket of snow pushed its way into Florida Jan. 3, sending temperatures below freezing in some of the state’s citrus and strawberry production areas.

In Plant City, FL, home to 95 percent of the country’s winter strawberry production, growers misted fields with millions of gallons of water as temperatures dropped into the 20s in some spots, with one field noting a low of 23 degrees.
