It was way back in 1909 when Joseph L. Bushman found his American Dream by starting a potato growing operation in Wisconsin, taking advantage of the dark Wisconsin soils.

Today, his legacy lives on as Busman’s Inc., a farmer-owned potato producer and one of the longest continuing potato growing companies in the state — dealing in reds, whites, yellows and Russets, including norkotahs, silvertons, gold rush and caribou.

Fishers, NY-based New York Apple Association, a nonprofit trade association that supports profitable growing and marketing of New York apples, is rolling out its NY Big Apple Crunch Challenge campaign to school districts throughout New York state and around the country on Thursday, Oct. 27.

“The NY Big Apple Crunch promotion is fun for adults, as well as kids, and carries a simple message — eat healthy and eat local,” said Nathaniel Foster, account and event manager for NYAA. “We have many schools ready to get their ‘crunch’ on!”

New Jersey farmers grow more than 100 different varieties of crops, and the fall season is a very active time.

National Organic Month is celebrated annually in September. This month-long campaign raises awareness of organic farming and production and brings attention to the benefits of organics. Concord Foods is participating in the campaign by promoting organic farming and foods on social media and offering retailers themed National Organic Month floor displays. Retailers are encouraged to create attention-getting displays in produce departments using Concord Foods display and organic fresh fruits and vegetables.

The International Fresh Produce Association formed a new volunteer leadership council focused on controlled environment agriculture. The council will focus on opportunities available within the growing market and will be led by volunteer leader Abby Prior, chief commercial officer at Bright Farms, and IFPA staff liaison Vonnie Estes, vice president of Agfood Tech Innovation
