Last time IFPA checked in it was talking about the deceleration of growth, and it has certainly arrived. Despite the great work on behalf of the industry to take hold of the growth and increased consumer engagement over the past few years, inflation and other widespread economic conditions have caught up to us and we’re seeing the slowdown we predicted.  

Sam's Club, a division of Walmart Inc., plans to open more than 30 new clubs across the U.S. over the next several years. The first location, which is planned in Florida, is slated to open in 2024. In addition to new clubs, the company has a multiple-year plan to invest in and modernize its supply chain through new distribution and fulfillment center locations across the country, including cutting-edge automation. Sam's Club will launch five new supply chain fulfillment and distribution centers in 2023, with the first location planned in Georgia in Q3.

Freska Produce International LLC, a leading marketer of mangos and avocados, has certified and begun to harvest and pack mangos in Chiapas and Oaxaca, Mexico.

The first variety that will be harvested is Ataulfo (Honey) mangos. The company said this year’s crop looks to be very nice and has plentiful mangos currently available.

Chiapas looks to start out with larger Ataulfos while Oaxaca will have more medium to smaller fruit. In about two to three weeks Freska will begin harvesting red mango Tommy Akins variety.
