The Louisiana Sweet Potato Commission, coming off its 70th year of promoting the growers and produce professionals who provide people with delicious and nutritious sweet potatoes in the state, is looking forward to 2023. 

In fact, leaders of the commission spent late January at the 61st National Convention of the U.S. Sweet Potato Council in Wilmington, NC, meeting with other experts about the best ways to help Louisiana growers and improve things for the entire industry.

International leaders in fresh produce, Vanguard International and RK Growers have entered into a strategic partnership to continue to grow their businesses globally.

RK Growers will operate as Vanguard’s procurement office for all European produced products, and Vanguard will provide RK Growers marketing, sales and distribution into Asia.

Fyffes and its winter melon business Sol Group have organized community medical brigades to reach 15 communities surrounding its cantaloupe, watermelon and honeydew melon farms. The program provided four medical clinics, five doctors, four nurses and five ambulances in the regions of Choluteca and El Paraiso, where its farms are located. The program objective is to ensure that employees, their families and the local community can have access to otherwise inadequate and hard to reach healthcare during the summer off-season.
