With premium product under its belt, Borton & Sons braces for the holidays
As consumers gear up for the coming holiday season, Borton & Sons Inc. is ready to move quality apples and pears with special promotions.
“We typically have some promotions go on right around the holidays,” said Lindsay Ehlis, part of Borton’s sales and marketing team in Yakima, WA. “Of course we figure those out when we see what the manifest generates and what our customer needs are.”
Prospects for the 2013 holiday season are planted firmly in a quality crop of apples and pears.
Ehlis said that the pear harvest finished in October, and the apple harvest will end soon.

Holiday packaging is designed to showcase the quality fruit at retail.
“We have a few packs that are specific to the holidays, one being our one- and two-layer gift boxes, and then we have our Holiday Greeting soft net bag film that does really well through this season,” she went on to say.
“The film on the bag is holiday color-themed, and we market Red Delicious and Granny Smith apples in the bag to add even more color to the package,” she continued. “The nice thing about this bag is we offer different netting options to complete the package, and all options look really nice with the film.”
On the social networking side, Borton & Sons continues to expand its media presence, she said.
“After an updated website in 2012, we’ve lined a lot more out on our Facebook and Twitter pages, as well as participating in many Twitter parties, mostly put on by the Produce for Better Health Foundation which we strongly support,” Ehlis said.
“We are continuing to explore our venues for social media and are open to looking into anything that surfaces in this arena as it’s taking over industry.”
