Potandon program pairing potatoes with onions
Potandon Produce LLC has introduced a program pairing potatoes and onions for consumer kitchens. “We just launched Sales for All Seasons at the PMA,” said Ralph Schwartz, vice president of marketing, sales & innovation. “It’s a yearlong approach which really identifies and highlights the best potatoes and onions to promote throughout the entire year, breaking out of the ‘Thanksgiving, Easter and Christmas’ thinking to a more ‘outside of the potato’ thinking. We’re encouraging retailers to take advantage of running promotions in off-peak months and with a wider item selection to create category excitement.”

Looking at consumer trends, Schwartz said Potandon has seen steady growth over the past two years for its mini potatoes, which account for over 10 percent of total category dollars.
The market for yellow-fleshed potatoes is also thriving, Schwartz said.
Through in limited distribution, Potandon’s organic potatoes currently account for 2.5 percent of category dollars.
During the fall, Potandon will focus on its Klondike Royale mini potato rollout and market penetration through multiple programs. “Also we’ve just made many major improvements to our website www.potandon.com,” he added.
Potandon is asking Americans to help combat the devastation caused by a horrific fire season in the United States through the Arbor Day Challenge. “Arbor Day is on April 29, 2016 and Potandon is officially calling upon the entire produce and floral industries to join us and help support the planting of trees in these burned out areas. Each dollar pledged will support the planting of one tree and to get things started Potandon has pledged $1,000. Our goal by Arbor Day is to have total contributions of $50,000 of funding.”
