Jim Angelucci, longtime general manager at Phillips Mushroom Farms and a respected leader, mentor and friend whose remarkable career spanned more than 50 years with the company, has died at the age of 76.
Mr. Angelucci's dedication, integrity and unwavering commitment to excellence helped shape Phillips Mushroom Farms into one of the most respected mushroom-growing operations in the United States. Throughout his more than five decades of service, Mr. Angelucci played a pivotal role in the company's growth, modernization and continued success, while never losing sight of the people and values that defined the organization.
Beginning his career with Phillips Mushroom Farms in 1973, Mr. Angelucci embodied the spirit of hard work, loyalty and stewardship. Through changing markets, evolving technologies and multiple generations of leadership, he remained a steady and trusted presence. His extensive knowledge of mushroom cultivation, operations and the mushroom industry earned him the respect of colleagues, customers, suppliers and competitors alike.
"Jim's impact on Phillips Mushroom Farms cannot be overstated," said the company's Marshall Phillips. "For more than 50 years, he dedicated himself to our company, our employees and our industry. His wisdom, work ethic and commitment to doing things the right way helped build the foundation upon which we continue to grow today. More importantly, Jim was a friend to so many. He will be deeply missed."
Throughout his career, Mr. Angelucci witnessed and contributed to significant advancements in mushroom growing, harvesting, food safety, packaging and distribution. His leadership helped ensure that Phillips Mushroom Farms maintained its reputation for quality, reliability and innovation while remaining grounded in the values established by its founders.
Mr. Angelucci will be remembered for his kindness, steady demeanor and willingness to help others. Whether walking through growing rooms, mentoring a new employee, working alongside colleagues to solve challenges or representing the company within the mushroom community, Mr. Angelucci led by example every day.
His legacy lives on in the countless employees he influenced, the operational standards he helped establish, and the enduring culture of excellence he helped foster throughout the organization and the industry. His impact on the mushroom industry was profound and far-reaching.

From sitting on local, regional and national committees to his leadership at both American Mushroom and Mushroom Council, Jim led with heart, passion and enthusiasm. On a personal level, it was Jim who engaged, shepherded and supported me when I joined this industry and helped to move this industry forward. A true leader, he will be missed greatly.”
Mr. Angelucci was honored with a Lifetime Achievement award in 2024 from American Mushroom, and served the industry proudly on the Mushroom Council for many years, including 1995-2002, 2002-07 (board chair 2003-05), 2010-15. Mr. Angelucci served on the American Mushroom board of directors from 1980 to 1996. The list of accolades and distinguished honors is long and well deserved.
