Jim Leimkuhler, CEO of Progressive Produce LLC, announced his retirement, effective March 31, after 35 years in the produce industry. The last 25 years have been spent with Progressive Produce in Los Angeles where he was instrumental in building it into a well-respected produce company that serves national and regional grocery chains, and foodservice companies throughout the United States.

After 27 years as Peak of the Market’s president and CEO, Larry McIntosh announced his retirement. He will continue to be with Peak of the Market until at least June.

Weis Markets announced the promotion of Bob Gleeson to senior vice president of merchandising and marketing.

In this position, Gleeson will oversee the company’s fresh and center store merchandising, sales and procurement, marketing and advertising. He reports to Weis Markets’ Chief Operating Officer Kurt Schertle.

The National Mango Board elected new officers during its March board meeting. As dedicated members, the NMB officers will fulfill their duties and responsibilities by leading the board in accordance with the Commodity Promotion, Research, and Information Act of 1996, and the Mango Order.

National Watermelon Promotion Board held its biannual board meeting virtually on Saturday, March 6 during which board member Jordan Carter was elected president by her peers, becoming the first woman to serve in this position. Prior to this nomination, Carter (District 3, Cordele, GA) served as secretary/treasurer as well as interim president since January 2021.

John Shuman, president and CEO of Shuman Farms in Cobbtown, GA, has been named the 2020 Grower of the Year by the Vidalia Onion Committee in recognition of Shuman’s contributions to the industry for more than 25 years.
